What We're Building Here at Sangone
With experts from Harvard Medical School, RWJ Medical School, Rutgers Biomedical Engineering, and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, we are creating a non-invasive way to test for HPV (also known as human papilloma virus). We recently won 1st Place at Scarlet Pitch 2025 for Graduate Teams, and placed in the Top 8 at the USA National Hult Prize, also known as "The Nobel Prize for Students".
Every 2 minutes, a woman dies of cervical cancer, a disease that is 95% preventable with early detection, yet 570,000 new cases are being diagnosed every year, with 85% of them occurring in low and middle-income countries, where screening is scarce. At the root of this crisis are the high-risk strains of HPV, particularly 16 and 18, which cause over 70% of cervical cancer cases worldwide. Despite the existence of pap smears and HPV tests, millions never get tested due to stigma, cost, and inaccessibility.
Sangone is curently working on creating a solution that makes testing easy-- and accessible. In the future, we want to scale to other biomarkers in order to address reproductive health conditions, such as endometriosis, PCOS, fertility, and other sexually transmitted disorders.

There's no one-stop shop to address reproductive disorders

With experts from Harvard Medical School, RWJ Medical School, Rutgers Biomedical Engineering, and Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, we are creating a noninvasive way to test for various reproductive disorders. Our first product focuses on HPV, also known as human papillomavirus.

We've decided to create a social campaign to advocate for all the reproductive rights we never had the chance to learn about in school, but remain critical to our overall health. We want you to tell us why you're an advocate for learning more about reproductive disorders, and why you encourage others to test!
The Sangone Social Network
In addition to creating a new product in the femtech space dedicated to non-invasive testing, Sangone aims to create a social network dedicated to making education and opportunity accessible to students of all ages. While doing customer discovery research, it was found that many individuals did not know the correlations that exist between HPV, cervical cancer, and Pap Smears, which is what we hope to address. This ultimately led to the realization that we don't speak about reproductive disorders, how they come about, or how to screen for them.
